It works with minor changes from your code as below:
"{CREDIT_AMOUNT}" => $item->credits
(Please advise if the changes will occur other error)

I found another problem, the exchange email notification was not updated into the database (table clarg_virtualmoney_emails).
Please advise.

after the exchange credit transaction was completed, "table clarg_virtualmoney_emails" was not updated with email subject, content, description.
i'm not sure if the system will do the table update after the transaction was completed with email sent.
please advise.

The email sent are not saved in the database, only the template of the email is saved.

I'm not sure if I understand correctly what the issue is but if the email is sent to the differents recipients with the correct content then everything is working fine.
