If recaptcha is activated, you need to get an API (public and secret key from recaptcha website)

Ok problem solved. Just in case anyone else gets caught out by this. The adsmanager recaptcha plugin needs to be configured with the public and private key separately to the site recaptcha plugin. So you need to add the keys twice.

Simple really.
